I am in need of distraction, I'm bummed I haven't been writing, and I now have a laptop so my only computer isn't in the basement. So...
I am once again contemplating starting a new RP. Possibly Mass Effect related. Any interest? E-mail me at dinahlance (at) gmail (dot) com or comment here.

New favorite TV quote:
(patting pockets) "Now where's that rat's ass I could give?"

I don't know if anyone is still interested in a Mass Effect RP, but I haven't abandoned the idea. I just really (no, really) am trying to wrap up my KotOR story. Which is taking longer than I expected, shock of shocks.

Sarah Palin about Barack Obama: "Al Qaeda terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America ... he's worried that someone won't read them their rights?"
Uh... your running mate was a POW.
Oh, wait! He was an American being held by foreigners. She's talking about foreigners being held by Americans. That totally makes it okay.

Latest TV quote that had me writhing helplessly with laughter:
"Lies are like children. They're a lot of work, but they're worth it because the future depends on them."

So I'm trying to get back into writing the Dustil story that has been cruelly abandoned for the past two years. The writing machinery... it is rusty. This is also my first time writing Juhani pretty much ever.
( Preview of the next chapter's opening flashback )
Any and all criticism is welcome.

If you haven't watched Sesame Street in a couple of decades, you may not know about "Elmo's World." It's a little show within the show where Elmo thinks of a topic and then asks people about it to learn more. Today's installment started like this:
"Guess what Elmo is thinking about today...
BALLS!
You know... BALLS!"
Mommy had a little trouble keeping a straight face. I love Sesame Street.

BioWare posted the Mass Effect wallpaper my husband and I made on their website (second row, far left, the "N7" one).
Okay, okay, he made it. I just art directed.

I'm now the same age as Commander Shepard. For no rational reason, this fills me with glee.

A very sweet song about superheroes and the women who love them: "Four-Color Love Story".
Favorite lyrics: And Gwen Stacy isn't dead; she's only sleeping And Elektra isn't evil or insane And those bastards in the Pentagon can't really kill Sue Dibney No more than they could kill off Lois Lane
And anyone looking to pre-order Mass Effect for the PC, Gamestop.com is offering $10 off right now.

We saw Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, and their little girl near the tiger habitat at the zoo today. In a stunning display of good taste, everyone seemed far more interested in the tigers.

An article from the Washington Post has been invading a lot of conversations in the DC area this week. (Are DCites allowed to talk about something other than politics in an election year?) Don't know if it's hit the rest of the country. But for anyone who might think sexism isn't still a big deal in this country, check out this article.
Apparently, if we females all embrace our inner interior designers and learn to be good little wives and mothers, we can (with this author's kind permission) "shriek and swoon and gossip and read chick lit to our hearts' content and not mind the fact that way down deep, we are . . . kind of dim."
Responses are here and here.
In a live chat discussing the article, the author (who is a woman) said: "Women aren't a historically oppressed minority . . ." Yes, if you're going strictly by numbers, "minority" might not completely apply. But not historically oppressed? Did you catch that? Is there enough WTFness in the universe to encompass that statement?

Another great quote from movie critic Anthony Lane in the New Yorker:
"Star Wars fans will remember Hayden Christensen as the young Anakin Skywalker, or, to be accurate, as a kind of handsome void where Anakin was supposed to be."

I just discovered that the Fox station in Baltimore is WBFF. They must have the best ratings ever.

I had a dream last night that I woke up and there was a two-headed chicken in my bed. It was all very Revelations.

I remembered something amusing yesterday and I decided to share. Back when I was a production editor, every once in a while, instead of writing the abbreviation "WF" in the margin to indicate that text had been set in the wrong font, a proofreader would circle something in the text and write "WTF" in the margin (presumably for wrong typeface).
And I would laugh and laugh.
